CDW, SCDW, deductible, liability... Car rental insurance can be confusing. Let us explain all the options simply and clearly.
Insurance is one of the most important yet most commonly misunderstood aspects of car rental. Many renters face confusing terms and do not know what is included and what is not. In this article, we will simply explain everything you need to know about car rental insurance.
Basic insurance (TPL)
Every car rental in Slovenia includes mandatory motor vehicle liability insurance (TPL -- Third Party Liability). This insurance covers damage you cause to third parties -- other vehicles, property, or people. However, this insurance does not cover damage to your rental vehicle. This means that if you cause an accident, you must cover the damage to the rented car yourself.
CDW -- Collision Damage Waiver
CDW is an upgrade to basic insurance that reduces your financial liability for damage to the rented vehicle. With CDW, your deductible is reduced to a predetermined amount -- at DivoCars, this is EUR 600. This means that in case of damage, you pay a maximum of EUR 600 regardless of the actual amount of damage.
SCDW -- Super Collision Damage Waiver
SCDW is the highest level of protection we offer. It reduces your deductible to a minimum -- at DivoCars to just EUR 200. Additionally, SCDW covers vehicle theft and damage to glass and tires, which basic insurance and CDW do not include. For complete peace of mind, we recommend SCDW.
Security deposit
When you pick up the vehicle, we block a certain amount on your credit card as a security deposit. The amount depends on the chosen insurance level -- with basic insurance it is higher, with SCDW it is the lowest. The deposit is released upon return of the undamaged vehicle. If you choose SCDW, the deposit is minimal, meaning fewer complications upon return.
Our advice
