Winter in Slovenia brings snow, ice, and challenging road conditions. Read our tips for safe winter driving and discover why our vehicles are already winter-ready.
Slovenia in winter offers magical landscapes -- from snow-covered Alps to misty valleys. However, winter driving requires extra caution and preparation. Whether you are an experienced driver or driving on snowy roads for the first time, here are tips to help you safely navigate the Slovenian winter.
Winter equipment is mandatory
In Slovenia, winter tires are mandatory from November 15 to March 15, or whenever road conditions require them. An alternative is summer tires with snow chains fitted. All DivoCars vehicles are equipped with quality winter tires during the winter period, so you do not need to worry about additional equipment.
Drive carefully on mountain passes
Mountain passes such as Vrsic, Jezersko, and Korensko sedlo can be closed in winter or require chains. Always check road conditions before departure on the promet.si website or in the DarsGo app. Avoid driving over passes at night when temperatures drop below zero and roads can be icy.
Adjust your speed to conditions
On wet or snowy roads, reduce your speed and increase the safety distance to the vehicle ahead. On motorways in poor conditions, a speed of 90-100 km/h is recommended instead of the permitted 130 km/h. Avoid sudden braking and sharp steering wheel movements.
What to do in case of an emergency
If you find yourself in trouble, call 112 for emergency assistance or AMZS (Automobile Association of Slovenia) at 1987 for roadside assistance. All our vehicles have a reflective vest, warning triangle, and first aid kit in the boot. In case of a breakdown or accident, call us and we will help you as quickly as possible.
