Lake Bled is without doubt one of the most recognizable images of Slovenia. An island with a church in the middle of the lake, a castle on a cliff above it, and the Julian Alps in the background: this is a scene no one forgets. From Ljubljana, you reach Bled in less than an hour, making it a perfect destination for a day trip with a car rental ljubljana.
From Ljubljana, take the A2 motorway toward Kranj. At Kranj, turn toward Bled, the route is excellently marked. In total, it is approximately 55 km and takes around 45 minutes. We recommend leaving early in the morning to avoid crowds, especially in summer. Parking near the castle is paid, alternatively park at the rowing center on the western shore.
First, head to the castle, which offers the most stunning view of the lake and its surroundings. Then treat yourself to a traditional pletna boat ride to the island: this is a unique experience you must not miss. On the island, visit the Church of the Assumption and ring the wishing bell. After returning, enjoy the famous Bled cream cake at one of the pastry shops by the lake.
On your way back to Ljubljana, stop in Radovljica, known for its beekeeping museum and excellent chocolate. If you have more time, also visit Vintgar, a gorge only 4 km from Bled.
